Career Opportunities at the University of Calgary:
A postdoctoral research position is open in the University of Calgary's Institute for Quantum Information Science (IQIS).Research will focus on the theory of strong nonlinear quantum optics with an emphasis on experimental realization of these phenomena. The successful applicant will be supervised by Professor Barry Sanders and be expected to work closely with the experimental groups of Professors Alex Lvovsky and Wolfgang Tittel and the theory group of Professor Christoph Simon.
This two-year position may be renewed for a third year depending on performance and continued funding. IQIS is a multidisciplinary research institute dedicated to advancing the field of quantum information science, and IQIS physicists are also members of the Quantum Optics Group in the Department of Physics & Astronomy. More on IQIS can be found at http://iqis.org/ and on the Quantum Optics Group at http://qis.ucalgary.ca/QO/
Calgary, with a million residents, is a cosmopolitan city located in the foothills of the Canadian Rockies. The city and region is a winter-sport and ecotourism paradise, with Banff National Park just an hour's drive away. Calgary hosts several famous annual festivals including the Calgary Stampede and the Folk Music Festival and was host of the 1988 Winter Olympics.
The successful candidate will have a PhD or equivalent, an excellent track record of publications and presentations in theoretical quantum optics, strong written and oral communication skills, competence in computer programming, and an understanding of experimental quantum optics. The application should address all these criteria, including curriculum vitae and statement of research plans, plus provide names and contact details for four referees. The application deadline is Thursday 5 November 2009. All application material must be emailed to:
